*Bodies In Motion*
Bodies in Motion Dance Company
At Mid-South Dance Academy, we value all of our students--young and old, beginners and advanced students alike. It
is our aim to offer a quality, dance education to all of our students. Some students choose to make dance their primary
extra-curricular activity and participate in dance at a very high level. These are members of our performing companying,
"Bodies in Motion".
In addition to attending classes 3 nights a week, Company members perform in shows and exhibitions around the
Memphis area and as far away as Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. They also regulary attend dance workshops and competitions
in the area.
Performing Dance Company Commitment
It is important for all students to understand the level of commitment in being a member of "Bodies of Motion". It
is a great deal of fun, but it requires a significant commitment to dance and a good deal of extra time and effort.
Taking a dance class is the same as participating in any other extracurricular activity. Being a Company member is much
like being on a select sports team.
Both students and parents should decide if they have the time to commit to the Dance Company. In this art form, decisions
and commitments must be made at a young age--we ask that dance is the primary extracurricular activity for our pre-professional
program. If the student does not have enough parental support, she/he may be better in non-company dance classes.
*All Company members must maintain regular and prompt attendance in all scheduled classes through the weekdays
and on the weekends. If absences occur, class time must be made up in approved classes from the instructor. An
occurrence of two unexcused absenses will result in probation from the Dance Company.
*Students who are in Company should be in class as often as possible throughout the summer--especially in ballet.
A mandatory summer ballet intensive will be scheduled for the summer.
*If the instructor decides that in any discipline (ballet, tap, jazz, etc.) a student is not making the committment required,
changes can and will be made in the fall prior to costumes being ordered.
Bottom line: We have a wonderful Dance Company of dedicated and talented performers. It is an honor to
be selected to be a part of this team, and all students, parents, and teachers should view it as such and commit to the team
accordingly.
